The phone is not opening at over about a 90-degree angle due to internal damage to the hinge, and the screen will badly break the sides if the phone gets forcefully unfolded. You’re right the only way around it seems to loosen the hinge but i didnt know that they were notoriously prone to failing, and it was too late to loosen them when they failed.
